55 - The Hopwood Family (Joseph and Mary)
Joseph Hopwood and Mary Moores married in 1860. They initially lived in Edgeley where they had their first 2 children and where Joseph worked as a felt finisher and Mary as a factory operative. Around 1870 they moved to Romiley where Joseph found work as a hatter and their son James was born.
The family didn't stay long in Romiley, moving back to Stockport, where their daughter Bertha was born. They they appear to have moved to Fall River, Massachusetts in the US as their daughter Minnie was born there in 1877. By 1880 they had returned, living at 185 Newbridge Lane in Stockport. Joseph was a hat presser and they had 6 children, 3 of whom were cotton operatives.
They were still on Newbridge Lane in the 1891 census but Joseph had unfortunately become blind. He was working as a sand dealer and they had 8 children.
Joseph died in 1895 aged 56.
By 1901 son James was married with children, living on Hempshaw Lane and his sister Minnie was living with him.
I haven't done full research on this family so please email me any information you manage to find out them,
